The Many Varieties of Carpet

If you have decided that it is time to purchase new carpet for your home, then you should first become familiar with the latest and greatest varieties of carpet available on the market today. By studying the different varieties, you can make a good decision on the carpet that will be right for you.

Woven carpets are the most well-known variety, where the carpet is actually made using a loom, and many, many different colors of yarn, all blended together to make a beautiful design or pattern. Woven carpets are typically among the top of the chain when it comes t quality as well.

Tufted carpet is popular, as it can be made in one certain color, or customized with non-colored yarn that can be then printed with color into a design. These carpets are usually either pile or loop pile, and are typically among the least expensive carpets on the market.

Needlefelt carpet is known for being very durable, and because of that is found in areas that have a lot of traffic, such as hotels, or doctors’ offices. Because of the high durability of this carpet, it is usually not on the cheap end of the price scale, although you may be able to get a discount if you are buying in bulk.

Flatweave carpet is not usually found in the United States, but is found in commonly in Japan, where it is very popular. It comes in three main varieties, plain weave, tapestry weave, and soumak.

Hooked rug carpeting is a lot of work to create, and is usually only made as a craft, and not for flooring purposes anymore. Individual pieces of cloth are pulled through another fabric, to create a rug.

Knotted pile carpets alternate and rise so that the pile creates a pattern in the carpet, adding depth and dimension to the look.

Many people prefer what is known as cut and loop carpet in their homes, as the textures provide good durability, and the carpets come in many different colors. Since the carpet is made from many layers, dirt stains, and footprints are a lot less likely to be seen, adding to the popularity of this carpet.

Saxony carpeting is made up of many fibers that are twisted together t form a yarn, creating a carpet that is very soft to the touch. The only bad thing about this carpet is that every mark will show that is made in it, footprints, vacuum cleaner, etc.

The best selling variety of carpet right know is textured Saxony carpet, popular for its feather soft feel. This carpet holds up well, and comes in many different colors, even multi-colors, which is great for high traffic areas, as it helps hide the appearance of stains and dirt.

For a luxurious carpet, that feels great on bare feet, and is pleasing to the eye, you can go wrong with plush velvet carpet. This carpet is rather expensive, and works well in areas that don’t get a lot of use, such as a formal living room or foyer.

There are many other varieties of carpets, all with their own benefits, and all varying in price. Take the time to visit your local carpet store and see what they have to offer.
